AROMATHERAPY ESSENTIAL OILS
by Dorothy M Rowatt, S.A.C. Dip. (Gentle Touch Aromatherapy)
The healing, cleansing, preserving and mood-enhancing properties of essential oils have been used in medicine throughout history. The cleansing qualities of essential oils are also well-known to beauty therapists; herbs and spices are used by cooks for their preserving and flavour-enhancing qualities; aromatic candles and burners are used by a number of people for their mood-enhancing and anti-stress qualities.
When essential oils are inhaled, their signals are carried to the limbic system of the brain, where they are analysed. The molecules then pass into the lungs and on into the bloodstream and are carried throughout the body where they can help to bring about a number of benefits to the body, including sedating, stimulating, relaxing and affecting the emotions in a positive way.
However, as essential oils could damage the stomach lining, they should always be used externally. Therefore, they should be blended with carrier oils or creams and then applied only to the surface of the body.
Great care should always be taken when working with essential oils as many are hazardous and should not be used at all. Others are toxic so should be used diluted and for a short time only. Some oils can even cause skin irritation, so should only be used blended with a carrier oil at half the normal addition. For those who are allergy prone or have very sensitive skins, a patch test should be carried out before use. Also, some oils, especially those from the citrus family should never by used before sitting in the sun as they can cause phototoxicity. It is always best to stick to the use of the well-known and safer oils, unless you are well-trained in the use of essential oils.
SOME ESSENTIAL OILS THAT CAN BE SAFELY USED USE IN BLENDS
To make an aromatherapy blend, you can add 2 drops of an essential oil to 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil. You can make up your blend in a small clean bowl, and then transfer it to a suitable jar or glass-dropper bottle that has been previously sterilized. It is best to make up small quantities at a time as blends do not keep for very long. It is also possible to blend together up to three essential oils. You can then apply the oil to any surface area of the body that is in need of the therapeutic properties of your chosen oils. Here is a list of some of the better-known and easier to use essential oils:
CHAMOMILE
- soothing; calming; anti-inflammatory; mildly antiseptic; can help to relieve symptoms of nervousness or stress; helps to reduce pain in muscles and joints; balancing for the female system.
CLARY SAGE- anti-depressant; antiseptic; anti-inflammatory; soothing; calming; useful for the relief of symptoms related to the menopause.
EUCALYPTUS- refreshing; decongestive; antiseptic; anti-inflammatory; head-clearing.
GERANIUM- antiseptic; antidepressant; anti-inflammatory; diuretic; balancing; warming; relaxing; harmonizing.
LAVENDER- muscle relaxant; calming; balances the nervous system; antiseptic - good for disinfecting scalp and skin; alleviates discomfort from insect bites, especially mosquito bites - in this case it is better just to place one drop of the essential oil directly onto the bite.
MARJORAM- calming; useful for the relief of muscular stiffness, strains and sprains; antiseptic. Caution - pregnant women should not use marjoram.
ROSE- balancing; antidepressant; antiseptic; calming; anti-inflammatory.
ROSEMARY- invigorating; uplifting; stimulating.
TEA TREE- antiseptic; purifying; anti-fungal; insect repellent.
YLANG YLANG- helps to regulate blood-pressure; anti-depressant; antiseptic; calming.
Please note that this information is for your own private and personal use. You should not use aromatherapy oils on anyone else unless you are already a trained Aromatherapist. A WORD OF WARNING
Most essential oils should not be used during pregnancy. Out of the above oils, only Lavender and Chamomile would be suitable in pregnancy but at a low dilution and only after the first four months. Marjoram should not be used by pregnant women and Clary Sage is sometimes used during Labour but can cause miscarriage during the pregnancy itself - consult your doctor if you intend using any essential oils while pregnant.
Those of you who are attuned to Reiki can just place your hands over the bowl with your prepared blend and allow the Reiki energy to flow into the oil. You can then use some of the blend and place the remainder into a glass-dropper bottle. This way you will have the added advantage of the therapeutic qualities of your essential oils along with the Reiki energy.

CARNIVAL IN VENICE, 2012
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 is Martedì Grasso, also known as Mardi Gras and Shrove Tuesday. This is the Carnival period and in Venice, Italy, it lasts for about two weeks ending on Martedì Grasso.
These are some photos I took during Carnival in Venice a few years ago.
Venice becomes a very popular place during Carnival - Venetians and tourists alike stroll around the streets dressed in extremely elaborate costumes.
The festivities also include open-air parades, a variety of entertainments and street performances.

I would like to dedicate my poem to all Light Workers:
THE LIGHT WORKER'S WAY
Our roads entwine, We make our way. We wait upon The breaking day
For His work, not yours, Or mine.
We must only wait To see The reason for life's Destiny.
But no one walks the road Alone; For His hand, yours and mine Will lead us to where we Belong.
Just wait awhile and You'll see the gifts. For if your eyes will seek, They'll surely find
A wanderer Who needs your help And mine.

THE WHISPERING WOODLANDS
By Dorothy M Rowatt (2003)
The whispering woodlands Awoke Love in me. Whoever said It could never be?
Those rays which reach My heart and subside Can comfort the thoughts Of all But those who hide
From the One who walks In Heavenly places, And awaits on all To show His graces.
No bounds are known To He who faces The ruler of the earth And all his disgraces.
Walk on, Son of the One Who is Great, And allow the work Never to abate.
For the day draws near When all will see The sorrowful face Of their own destiny.
But some will see And feel and know That Love can grow Wherever He may go.
So, come Destiny Do not delay. The force of Christ Must make its way.

Combating the Stress Monster
Stress is something that the great majority of us suffer from these days. No longer can we expect to lead our lives in a quiet and peaceful way, as we are continually bombarded by outside stimuli that evoke in us feelings of delight and joy or frustration and fear. Life is moving at such a fast pace that we can hardly keep up any more. So, what does all of this activity do to the physical body, the mind and the immune system? Well, it certainly seems that many of today's illnesses are stress related, therefore, combating stress must become a priority in our busy lives.
- How do we do that? There are certainly many methods that can help us deal with stress, which range from just taking time out to play a game of golf, or any sport that we enjoy doing.
- Even country walks, cycling, painting, or any pursuit that will help us to relax can go a long way towards combating the Stress Monster.
- Eating healthily and getting the right amount of sleep are extremely beneficial in order to help us gain a degree of control over our health, our emotions and our lives.
- Lastly, and certainly not least of all, is the decision to take up the practise of meditation. A meditative state can be achieved by simply sitting and contemplating the beauty of a flower, a crystal, or watching the flicker of a candle flame.
- Having a teacher to guide you through the stages of meditation is very useful.
- Creative visualisation is another way to calm the mind and help you to feel more positive, relaxed and serene.
I have studied many forms of meditation, as well as creative visualisations, in my work as a Reiki Master and Angel Practitioner. Only recently, I have learned a wonderful method of scanning the energy system in order to pin-point certain areas in the Chakras, as well as our past traumas, that might be causing us problems. I then use a clearing method, as well as a guided visualisation exercise, in order to help to clear away any blocks that are keeping us from being able to release stress and discomfort on an energetic level.
My Meditation & Energy Scan Sessions are held over either Skype (anywhere in the world) or by telephone (only in the UK or USA & Canada).
The cost of a 45 minute session is 39 USD I hold all of my workshops and sessions in connection with 'Istituto Harmonie', a cultural association in Abano Terme, Italy.
Here are some Testimonials from those who have already received an Energy Scan Session from me: Coralee..."I am so grateful for the energy scan I received today. The timing was perfectly Divine, and I am thankful for the advice you gave me. It was the first time I participated in a meditation over the phone, and I have to say that I was amazed by how peaceful and connected I felt!"
Glenda... "Just wanted to thank you so much for energy scan today Dorothy. So kind of you to give your time and I have to say it was so helpful. I felt physically lighter after the scan and your advice and comments afterwards were spot on and really meant something to me."
Catherine..."Thank you for sharing your time with me today. The Energy scan reading was very interesting and has given me lots to think about. You have a wonderful gift and I will certainly 'give Peace a chance' Your reading was 'spot on'. I feel lighter and brighter now. :)"
Kathleen..."Thank you Dorothy ~ I so enjoyed our time connecting! The Energy Scan you did for me is quite revealing in more ways than I can tell you! I deeply appreciate that not only did you affirm several key things for me, which I so needed, you also provided insight into questions I've had for quite some time now. "Ask and ye shall receive." I particularly appreciate the elegant timing of our connection and you sharing your gifts so lovingly."
The following is a Testimonial I received from Dr Barbara Sherry Rose, founder of the International Life transformation Institute:
"Dorothy Rowatt is one of the rare souls who brings through the most pure guidance that becomes life transforming in the most positive way. I can assure you, when you contact Dorothy, you will be grateful for her gifts and I share this with you from the bottom of my heart so you will know that she can be trusted completely.
I wish to thank you all for your very kind testimonials, I really do appreciate them. I also wish to give a special 'thank you' to Dr Barbara Sherry Rose for taking the time to give me this wonderful testimonial.
